The Descendants of Moza Hurt in West Tennessee

The Hurt familly arrived in West Tennessee around 1830, and many descendants of those early settlers still remain in Carroll, Gibson and Henry Counties. Records of those locations and other counties in the area reveal the presence of a number of other people named Hurt who may, or may not be related to those shown here. The relationship of the Barger family to the Hurt family shown below begins with the marriage William O. Barger to Martha Louella "Ella" Hurt, the daughter of John J. Hurt and Martha Pryor, and the grandaughter of John Mann Hurt, great-grandaughter of James Hurt and the great-great-grandaughter of Moza Hurt of Caroline County, VA. Other connections between the Barger and Hurt families have been discovered, but not thoroughly documented, including early settlers in Adair County, KY. Further research is in progress.
