Notes:

(A) Alfred Barger was the progenator of one of several Barger families of West Tennessee. He arrived in West Tennessee following the Jackson Purchase, which allowed White settlers to move west of the Tennessee River. His son, William Alexander "Bill" Barger, was born in Knoxville in 1819. Where the family lived before that time is not yet known. We are told that Alfred Barger married twice, but we have no knowledge of either wife or of any children of the first union. Of the second marriage, we only know that there were three daughters, whose names we do not know, and one son. The descendants of Alfred Barger lived in Gibson, Carroll, Henderson and Madision Counties in Tennessee. Other Barger families were also located in those areas, but no link to them has been established.
