Note:  Michael is shown in some records as Johann Michael,
with a variety of spellings of the surname.  He and his
wife, and two of their sons, George Henry and John, left
Wurtemburg, by way of Rotterdam, Holland, aboard the Phoenix,
arriving in Philadelphia on 2 Nov 1752.  There may have been
another son, Abraham, who was not on that ship.  It is believed
that Abraham may have made the journey to America earlier, but
no proof has yet been offered to establish that fact.  The
family farmed in Conestoga Township, Lancaster Co., PA for
several years.  Before 1760, they moved south to Rowan County,
NC, where they remained.  The youngest son of Michael and
Katherine, Jacob Berger, was the only child of that couple
born in America.
